Available until Friday, 18 August
We are thrilled to welcome Iwitoi Kahungunu Artist Collective back to the Gallery this year, with a new exhibition curated by Dr Sandy Adsett (Ngāti Pahauwera). A bespoke installation of contemporary art by artists who either whakapapa to Ngāti Kahungunu or reside within its rohe, Iwitoi mahitoi engages in reprising cultural values beyond the marae - treasuring the images that identify Māori and Ngāti Kahungunu, claiming a space to stand as Māori, and being Māori-centric in identifying what makes for creative artistic excellence.
In this education programme ākonga will explore the artworks and different media, together and talk about some key themes. Then, we will do a fun, hands-on clay workshop inspired by the designs and patterns in the exhibition.
Key Themes: Te Ao Māori, toi Māori, hītori Māori, portraiture, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, patterns and design, taonga
Subject Areas: Visual Arts, Te Reo Māori, Social Sciences, English, Learning Languages
