Available until 21 June | Jasmine Togo-Brisby is an Australian South Sea Islander, whose project at Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga includes sculptures within a ship silhouette. The discussion for ākonga emphasizes appreciating the cultural heritage of Australian South Sea Islanders, understanding resilience, and recognizing the power of art in connecting past experiences with the present. Exploring Sustainability Inspired by "Kelekele Mo‘ui (Living Soil)"

Available until 16 August | The educational programme aims to engage students in exploring the profound connection between humanity and the environment, inspired by the exhibition "Kelekele Mo‘ui (Living Soil)" by Tongan artist Kalisolaite ‘Uhila. Through interactive activities and discussions students will deepen their understanding of sustainability and their role as kaitiaki of the earth to become active agents of positive change in their communities and beyond. There will be three different hands-on activities to choose from. Suitable for years 9-13. Free, 75-90 minutes.

Pasifika Mural

Ongoing – available all year | Join us for our Pasifika workshop which combines elements of Pasifika and public art as well as a hands-on making experience. Together we will investigate the elements of the Pasifika mural on the external wall of the nearby Hastings District Library. The mural depicts the journey of our early Pasifika ancestors from their homeland to Aotearoa New Zealand. Suitable for years 9-10. Free, 60-90 minutes/adaptable to your timeframe.

Public Art Walking Tours (for offsite or onsite delivery)

Ongoing – available all year | Street art is a popular art form, with many walls and sides of buildings around the Hawke’s Bay now canvases for large-scale, striking artworks. In this programme, students will learn about the origins of street art - both overseas, and here in Aotearoa. We will embark on a walking tour of Hastings, examining local examples of street art, and the meanings and motifs behind the works. Suitable for years 9-13. Free, 60 minutes.

Youth Art Ambassador Programme

Youth Art Ambassador Programme

The Youth Art Ambassador Programme (YAAP) will return to the Gallery from March. This monthly, peer-led, after-school programme focuses on providing new experiences and skills for rangatahi aged between 15 and 19. It’s a fantastic opportunity to attend artist workshops, while also exploring possible career pathways through insights into gallery roles. Applications have closed for this year and will reopen in 2025.
