Art Explorers
Ongoing - available all year

Art Explorers is our programme specifically designed for early learners. With a strong focus on wellbeing, belonging, contribution, communication and exploration, this programme adopts an interactive approach and plenty of hands-on components to keep students engaged throughout the session. We explore gallery spaces, become gallery detectives, learn about artworks, and make art together!

This programme can be applied to a focus exhibition or all gallery exhibitions, depending on learning goals and outcomes of the class.

Exhibitions on display in Term 2, 2022 include:

  • Nikau Hindin, Kōkōrangi ki Kōkōwai: Monday, March 28 - Friday, May 20. Hear Nikau’s story and become Gallery Detectives.
  • Star Waka: Monday, March 28 - Friday, May 20. We will make a star to put under the Star Waka. (Can be combined with Kōkōrangi ki Kōkōwai.)
  • Jess Johnson & Simon Ward, Terminus: Monday, May 2 – Friday, October 21. After a walk through the Terminus exhibition we will make a humanoid or alien puppet.
  • Elizabeth Thomson, Cellular Memory: Monday, June 6 - Friday, September 2. We will use magnifying glasses to become gallery detectives.
  • Poutu Puketapu, Te Pō Uriuri: Monday, June 13 - Friday, August 26. We will hear the story of Te Pō Uriuri.
