Thursday 9 August, 4.00-5.00pm | Join us for an exclusive opportunity for Hawke's Bay teachers to preview our new exhibition: EAST 2018 and find out about the gallery's free art education programmes.

EAST is a biennial exhibition that celebrates the artistic excellence and legacy of Hawke’s Bay. The 2018 iteration is being curated by Bruce E. Phillips and features 23 creative practitioners exhibited across two venues, Hastings City Art Gallery and MTG Hawke’s Bay in Napier alongside a region-wide programme of events.

Exhibiting artists are: Vanessa Arthur, Annette Bull, John Brown, Joyce Campbell, Terri Ripeka Crawford, Jenny Gillam, Ayesha Green, Kauri Hawkins, Michael Hawksworth, Rangituhia Hollis, Peter Madden, George Nuku, Ben Pearce, Martin Poppelwell, Clare Plug, Sonya Lacey, Lara Lindsay Parker, Jacob Scott, Ann Shelton, Natalie Robertson, Tim Thatcher, David Trubridge, Kamaka Pottery (Bruce and Estelle Martin)

How relationships ground and complicate our lives is a guiding premise of EAST 2018, and in particular how social, environmental and informational factors combine to create many layers of understanding. This proposition is explored by the selected creatives, who range from emerging through to established practitioners, and reflect a wide array of practice connected to the region. The exhibition features a mixture of rarely seen existing works with a number of new commissions including street performances, large-scale photography, video, sculptural installations and a variety of media such as painting, ceramics, architecture and industrial design.

No booking required, refreshments provided.
