Jonathan Brown: No Direct Access to Reality

Jonathan Brown: No Direct Access To Reality | Foyer Gallery

4 July 2015 - 6 September 2015

Winner of the 2012 Kaipara Foundation Wallace Trust Award, John Brown is a sculptor, now based in Hawke’s Bay.

In this exhibition Brown asks visitors to look at objects in a different way, with a selection of new sculptural work. Taking it’s cue from archaeological displays, the installation presents viewers with imagined artefacts that sit uneasily within customary museum classifications. Made from wax, plaster, wood and sometimes found items, these objects take on distinctly human-like qualities.

Brown uses personal experience as his starting point. Through art his own memories are reassembled to trigger, for the viewer, memories of past experience.
