Ghosting depicts the unsettling urban and suburban spaces of Hastings and Napier. Exploring the architectural environment over the human, Unverricht evokes a sense of the still empty night-time darkness that surrounds these spaces. His paintings draw on small town inertia and big city insecurity. Familiar nocturnal spaces filled with dark hiding-places which suggest a number of darker readings inspire unease in the viewer due to their lack of human presence.
