Andrea Selwood: HOME SCIENCE - transforming light | Foyer Gallery

23 May – 9 August 2020

Responding to coastal environments in Aotearoa, this exhibition explores the play of water and light, breaching threshold to alter states.

These prismatic images suggest a universal dynamic - geometries of nature organic in origin.

An idea of growth and life cycle is integrated with the gallery space so that the installation reads as a sum of parts that equals the whole.

Usual rules of camera photography and darkroom technique don’t apply, but are subverted by experiment to allow the spontaneous control and manipulation of light as it projects through liquids.

Abstract photography offers the means to capture the temporary and impermanent subject, expressing an overall sublime landscape.

In the spirit of Matariki shared, here is a celebration of winters closing with new stars rising – light transcends the material world.
