Esteemed ceramic artist Richard Parker will present a floor talk at the gallery on April 20th at 2pm to support his exhibition which is currently showing in the Holt Gallery. Richard Parker: Master of Craft celebrates the illustrious career of one of New Zealand's most influencial ceramic artists and is on until June 23rd.

The exhibition is toured by Objectspace.

 

Floor talk is free and open to all.

March 22nd will see Hastings City Art Gallery host a very special literary and design event. Locally based, internationally-renowned designer David Trubridge will launch his book So Far in the presence of family, friends, staff and supporters.

So Far is an autobiographical account of Trubridge’s development as a designer, weaving together his personal and creative journey with the progress of his lauded career.

Our fabulous new graphic designer Rachel Juno has created a beautiful range of cards to raise money for the wee one of dear friends. Little Dylan has some very intense medical treatment coming up, and Rachel is hoping to ease some of the financial strain of this.

The newly re-branded regional art exhibition, formerly known as the Creative Hawke's Bay Invitational and now named EAST2012 will open on October 27.

The show is curated by Whanganui's Bill Milbank, who has selected 36 artists to represent his story of our region. The HCAG team is hard at work preparing the exhibition, and we look forward to opening the show.

Sincere thanks to Clearview Estate Winery for their support in producing this significant exhibition.

To help us celebrate The Waiata Maori Music Awards, and the Hastings Blossom Festival, WAI will be performing free to the public, at the gallery on Saturday, 15 September from 1pm.

"WAI are a five piece maori electronica roots band based in Porirua. They perform entirely in the Maori language and utilise a Maori style of presentin...g their music not only in the structure and fusion of their music but also in the delivery of their show.

In conjunction with the exhibition 'Sense of Place' exhibiting artist Kim Lowe will talk about working as a printmaker/artist in Christchurch and her involvement in the 'Shared Lines- Sendai /Christchurch Art Exchange 2012-2013'.

As both Sendai and Christchurch are cities that were greatly affected by natural disasters in 2011 the Sendai/Christchurch Art Exchange is a project for visual artists from both cities to share their work and experiences.

The top three plus six highly commended concept submissions made to the Hastings District Council toward the Civic Square re-development project will be on view in the Foyer gallery at the Hastings City Art Gallery from Friday March 23 until Sunday May 13.

The Hastings District Council is encouraging feedback on this project during the course of the Draft Long-Term consultation process which runs from 31 March to 4 May 2012.

Hastings City Art Gallery invites you to hear Pip Davies deliver a Floor talk about her arts practise.  This event will take place on 1 April  2012 from 3:00pm onwards.  Pip is now showing in the Foyer gallery with her exhibition, Look at Me.  This exhibition consists of a series of portraiture paintings which explore the relationship between the viewer and sitter, in this case mothers and daughters. The exhibition runs until Sunday 15 April 2012.  Gallery hours are 10:am - 4:30pm daily.  Entry is free.

Hastings District Council currently has a vacancy at the Hastings City Art Gallery for a part-time Visitor Services and Retail Assistant, working on Sundays, 9:45am to 4:45pm.  This role is part of the Community Facilities and Programmes Group within Council.

Bring in a jar of homemade preserves or a handmade toy to exchange for a wax votive made by Tiffany.

At the end of the exhibition the preserves will be gifted to the Hastings Food bank and the toys will be gifted to the children at the Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Floor Talk: Tiffany will be talking about her work at 11am on Saturday 21st January.  Stay and make a handmade toy to exchange for one of Tiffany's wax works!

The Hastings City Art Gallery will be closed on the following dates over the Christmas and New year holiday period: Dec 25, 2011 (Christmas day), Dec 26, 2011 (Boxing day), Dec 27, 2011 (Christmas holiday observed), Jan 1, 2012 (New years day), Jan 2, 2012 (New year holiday), Jan 3, 2012 (New years day observed).  The gallery will be open as usual outside of these dates, 7 days between the hours of 10am and 4.30pm.

Floor Talks in conjunction with ‘Game On A Selectors Choice of Contemporary New Zealand Artists’ were delivered Saturday September 10, by featured artists Paul Hartigan and Fane Flaws. Paul kicked off the afternoon giving visitors a quick history and insight to his journey through ‘The Neon Revolution’, followed by afternoon tea and the always entertaining Fane discussing his artistic history as a ‘Media Pirate – Working Across Multiple Disciplines’.
