Thinking Unfolding | Foyer Gallery

22 May – 1 August 2021

The idea of a book as an art object evolved in the mid-20th Century when artists began experimenting with the book format as a means to express their ideas.

This touring exhibition from the Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ) sees printmakers from throughout Aotearoa, including eight artists from Hawke’s Bay, expand on and explore the idea of the artist book by taking the concept of a book further, creating art objects inspired by the form and/or function of a book. This idea has been approached using a range of techniques and materials which extend beyond the realm of traditional printmaking.

PCANZ is a member-run, national, non-profit organisation that promotes contemporary fine art printmaking. PCANZ fosters a greater appreciation of printmaking among members and the wider community.

Artists: Kathy Boyle, Lee Brogan, Kate Buckley, Beth Charles, Julia Ellery, Lisa Feyen, Cate Godwin, Esther Hansen, Pam Hastings, Diane Harries, Toni Hartill, Julie Henderson, Jackie Knotts, Julie Moonlight, Rosemary Mortimer, Toni Mosley, Heather Partel, Terrie Reddish, Emily Revell, Gracen Salisbury, Nicol Sanders-O’Shea, Jodi-Ann Tautari, Bev Trillo & Celia Walker
